You know this feeling, you’d had it before.
Something triggers it. A song, a quote, a phrase, or something someone says to you. It would have meant nothing had you heard it at any other time, and even now it means nothing specific.
But it sends a warm pulse through your veins, like someone just breathed life into you. A calm settles on you like the falling of a mist on a winter evening, with a peace that you remember in the days of your childhood when nothing mattered and all was well in the mug of hot chocolate that you held by the fire, snuggled up in a blanket.
A smile finds its way to your lips from your heart - it’s a long time since one came from there. Suddenly everything fades away, everything that clouded your mind flees like the parting of the clouds to reveal the bright sun. And that sun is shining on you, soaked to the skin in the long lasting rain, drying you and warming you and even though it’s cold and you want to hug yourself you stretch out your arms because you know the rays are warmer than anything you can rub yourself to.
There is a new bounce in your stride, a new purpose in your thoughts, a new direction you are heading. You have a purpose, a name, a guide, a cause, a sword and a shield, and you stand armed and brave ready to face hordes of Orc and Elk and Troll - to charge among their arrows which cloud the sky and face gargantuan misshapen abominations, unafraid because you know you will emerge victorious.
This is the feeling that dwells in you now.
This is the warmth of hope.
