I think there is a deep need to pit the values and understandings of virtues from the world’s perspective against those that come from a truly redeemed heart.

So many things are being misunderstood in today’s world - nonchalance for strength and patience, stubbornness and arrogance for perseverance and confidence, knowledge for wisdom, action for heart.

It feels that so much is seen on the surface - and who can we fault, when all we really can see is on the surface, most of the time. But if we really learn to observe it as a whole, both word and behavior, and I’d think that behavior often speaks far more than words, then perhaps we will see far more than we normally can.

It is easy to keep up appearances in front of everyone, far too easy. But it is what is done in private, or perhaps even between two people, that truly reveals who we are. Nobody likes to reveal the bad side of ourselves, but if we don’t face it and acknowledge it, then we’ll never learn to come out of our shallowness.

That which is done in secrecy, perhaps should not be done at all. If you have to hide it from those you respect, those you love, those above you, then I think it’s better not to do it at all. Yet I know there have been and there will be many things going on behind my back, and there will always be, until people will learn that the adage “what you don’t know won’t hurt you” is totally false.
