Why don't we?
You see, even though the desires are there for a battle to fight, an adventure to live, and a beauty to rescue, even though our boyhood dreams were once filled with those things, we don’t think we’re up to it. Why don’t men play the man? Why don’t they offer their strength to a world desperately in need of it? For two simple reasons: We doubt very much that we have any...
Burning Bridges
I have been challenged recently, to let loose some friendships and deliberately lose contact with certain people. If you’re reading this, you’re obviously not that group of people - those people will never, ever, ever read my blog, and i don’t even think they know my online presence, much less know this is me.
It wrenches my heart, because these are people whom i’ve grown...

And a most pleasant evening/night it has been, despite earlier disappointments and wrestlings with self in the day.
The company makes the time enjoyable, it always does.
In all matters, I still think it wise to seek the advice and counsel of the leaders or those older or wiser than ourselves (note that wisdom doesn’t necessarily come with age).
At worst, you gain an alternate perspective that you may not totally agree. That’s something that, if one is mature (and I would presume the leaders are), is easily discussed and straightened out.
At best,...

May it be that man be kind, To each his brother’s plight That words spoken do not rind But bring peace to the night.
May it be that each young child Should ne’er face a sorrow That their innocence will last the while To each and every ‘morrow
May it be that hatred, scorn Be cast into the pits of fire For each in His Image has been made Not to endure one’s ire

Mom: I just don’t want you to fail. Or be mediocre. Don’t be mediocre when you are capable of excellence. That’s all. I mean, I just want you to do your best. Just do your best and that will be okay with me. BUT!… Dad: Mom wants you to get all As. Just ignore whatever else she says.

The Power of Something Small
FYP presentations were today and as a supervisor i graded my student in accordance to his attitude, his achievement, his report (thesis) and his presentation. Wasn’t too difficult - he’s been a great learner with a great attitude and initiative, produced marvelous work that helped me and i’d give him credit for.
As i was writing the grades out i realized that it wasn’t as...

Weekend Plans ARGH
I was thinking about what to do with my weekend, and i felt like just hanging out at some coffeebean outlet and chilling - reading a book, browsing the web, blogging and working on articles/writings/research/work and generally just getting my things done for the whole of saturday at a relaxed pace, simply to enjoy the process.
Then it hit me: i can’t do that coz i don’t have a...

That’s simple.
I’d get a house for my parents - one that they would be comfortable in, not too big but not too small. Probably would end up being a flat. Dad would like a tv, maybe 30”, to watch his documentaries on, and Mom would want her Korean and Taiwanese dramas, so cabletv for them would be good. Maybe someone to take care of them in the day during their old age - as much...
